Hello everyone, my name is Alyssa and as well as being the current President of PARSA I am also the current postgraduate representative to the ANU Council.

I have held this position for the last year and during that time have ensured that many key issues related to postgraduate students have been considered and actioned, such as: accommodation for families; ensuring student satisfaction is captured and measured regarding ANU systems; and ensuring the postgraduate voice is considered in the ANU Strategic Plan.

I spearheaded the reforms to the ANU Council reporting on sexual assault and sexual harassment. I have also been an outspoken advocate during Council meetings on this issue, ensuring ANU does more to support students and create meaningful change.

Another large project this year has been the Union Court Redevelopment and the Pop Up Village. I have been involved in committee and decision making bodies at many levels, including Council, in order to ensure postgraduate students are provided for in these projects as well as respond to student issues as they arise, such as exam scheduling.

As a current member of Council I have been able to build a strong knowledge of current ANU governance issues and policy, and build strong relationships with key ANU stakeholders and Council members. By re-electing me to the ANU Council, and as PARSA President, I will continue to strongly represent and advocate for your needs and issues to the ANU.

Chris Wilson

Ticket: ANyou

I’m Chris Wilson and I am the immediate past President of PARSA and the previous ANU Council Postgrad member. This year I’ve nominated for the positions of ANU Council member and PARSA General Secretary. This is my 4th year at ANU where I am studying to become a Medical Doctor and with 18 months to go with my studies, I feel I have more to contribute.

My main aims as Council member are:
- To limit any fee changes for Postgrad students to the same amount as Australian Domestic undergrads,
- To require all staff to complete mandatory sexual assault, harassment, and discrimination awareness and reporting training,
- For the ANU to completely divest from investment in fossil fuel companies,
- To stop hiding the problems of harassment, violence, and harm on campus by demanding a safety report to be included in Council minutes and VC blogs and updates,
- Demand an audit into the pay rates of PhD students, who are potentially under-paid.

During my time as President we instigated the role of Women’s Officer, achieved 24 hour library open times and allocated more money for counsellors, lawyers, and student assistance officers. With my background I look forward to supporting the next PARSA team.

From my experience of holding almost every role at PARSA, I know PARSA will be stronger by having separate people fill the roles of Council member and PARSA President as PARSA will no longer be able to be silenced because of Council secrecy.
