Officer blogs

From the President's desk- July 2018

Hello all, and welcome to the July edition of Alyssa's blog.

I hope that you have been having a lovely and relaxing mid-year break. Some of you may have gone home, some of you may still be in Canberra, and some of you may still even be studying or working on your research. Wherever you are, I wish you well.

You may have noticed this month’s President’s message is coming from me, Zyl Hovenga-Wauchope. I am the Vice President, but I am currently the Acting President while Alyssa is away at the CISA Conference with PARSA’s International Officer, Harish Chakravarthy. We have some great news from the Conference, by the way: the PARSA delegation has successfully seen Maria Shumusti and Rakhi Mukherjee elected as the CISA Public Relations Officer and Treasurer, respectively. Congratulations to them, and a warm thank you to Arjun Madathil for his service as Public Relations Officer for the last year.

PARSA Officers and Staff have been working very hard over the break to ensure that O-Week and Welcome week are going to be very successful. You may have seen some of our posters – I think they look fantastic and that “Elemental” will be one of the best yet, and whether it’s a trip to Stromlo, a lighthearted meet and greet, or a family friendly festival, I think we’ve got something for everyone.

On a more personal note, I am very pleased to say that the Constitutional changes proposed at our SGM on 22/06 were passed unanimously. This is an enormous deal and the success of their passage is testament to the tireless work of so many people over the past 18 months. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to everyone who was involved.

That’s it from me for this edition of the PARSA Newsletter. Alyssa will be back next week and I will be back to focusing on the Home Away from Home Campaign, policy writing, and preparing for O-Week. I hope you all have a lovely July, and are refreshed and rested in time for the beginning of Semester 2.

Kind Regards,

Zyl Hovenga-Wauchope - PARSA Vice President
