Welcome to my blog!
Hopefully last week you have had the opportunity to engage with Wellness Week and take advantage of the range of events on offer. A big thank you to Sahar, PARSA’s Equity Officer, and our dedicated staff team who have worked tirelessly to co-ordinate this.
PARSA has launched two surveys this week – that’s right, two! Although I promise they are very quick. The first is the postgraduate survey, and the second is for students who are parents. Both surveys will inform our future activities and advocacy.
In recent advocacy news, PARSA has been continuing discussions with ANU and the Council of International Students Australia (CISA) regarding the Federal Government announcements surrounding VISAs. With the help of our friends in the Indian Students Association (InSA), we held an information session last weekend. Students that have concerns should feel free to contact PARSA’s legal team for free and confidential advice.
The recent Federal Government announcements surrounding education have also been cause for concern. PARSA has been working closely with our national representative body, the Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations (CAPA), to understand the full effects of these announcements for postgraduates and represent the impact on postgraduates. However, with the Federal Budget coming out next week, there is the potential for further announcements that may have greater effects on postgraduates.
Keep an eye out for a range of wonderful upcoming events. We also have the PARSA Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 25 May. The AGM will be an opportunity to talk about PARSA’s activities and a chance to get input from you on some of our big ideas and projects – so please come along to exercise your democratic rights.
All the best,
P.S. Please take 10 minutes to fill out our postgraduate survey – as thanks for your time, we have some excellent prizes, including two $500 Visa Gift Cards and ten $100 Visa Gift Cards, to be won.
