Greetings for the 2017 academic year!
A warm welcome to both new and returning postgraduates – I hope you have had a rejuvenating break and are ready for the year ahead.
For those new to ANU, PARSA is the representative body for the 11,000 postgraduates at ANU. We are here to support you during your time at ANU, primarily through:
Welfare – student support such as free legal, financial and academic advice, and crisis support
Advocacy – we represent postgraduates on University committees, influence University and Government processes and run campaigns on issues of importance
Community building – we aim to build a connected and vibrant postgraduate cohort through social, cultural, academic and sporting initiatives
PARSA has been keeping busy over the break preparing a great program of events and activities for Orientation Week (O-week). We have a wonderful program lined up, including excellent merchandise and give-aways, opportunities to learn more about academic life at ANU and meet postgraduates from across campus, and a chance to meet the Vice Chancellor at our Postgraduate Welcome Evening. We are also trialling something new this year – Welcome Week – which takes place in week 1 and aims to provide you with more opportunities to connect and familiarise yourself with ANU.
On a serious note, we know many students will be affected by President Trump’s Executive Order. If you have concerns about this affecting your study please contact us at parsa@anu.edu.au or drop into the office, located in Union Court.
To find out more about events, or what PARSA does, I encourage you to have a look at our Facebook page or our website.
From the whole PARSA team, welcome to the 2017 academic year and we hope to see you soon!
Best Wishes,
Alyssa Shaw
President, PARSA
