Get Involved
Is your school or faculty represented?
If you don't know who your local PARSA rep is, then chances are you don't have one... You should either find one or try it out yourself!
We endeavour to have a rep from each graduate studies field so we can communicate with all postgraduate students at ANU. The more reps there are, the more easily we can inform you of changes the university is making and present your opinion to ANU committees.
Another way you can help is to sit on a committee. There plenty (look here). If you see something you are interested in sitting on, let us know and we'll make it happen...
PARSA WANTS YOU
PARSA is a fantastic organisation run by volunteers and does some great work behind the scenes so that you leave the ANU with a memorable posgraduate experience.
There are different ways for you to get involved.
1. Report any grievances with the university.
If you have come across issues that are affecting you as a postgraduate student, whether it's academic, administrative or equity-related, come and have a talk with PARSA. We can not help you if you don't help us help you.
2. Passionate about student activism?
Well, PARSA does not quite work like the undergraduates in terms of rallies and political protests, but as the peak representative body for ANU postgraduates, PARSA is an effective way to be part of the university decision process.
PARSA is looking for student representatives from the following areas.
- Law
- Arts and Social Sciences
- Asia and the Pacific
- Business and Economics
- Science
As a member of the PRC (Postgraduate Representative Council) you can:
- make a difference
- participate in a wide range of activities
- meet new people
- gain valuable leadership and organisation skills
- learn more about the university and university administration
- have fun
ANY enrolled postgraduate student from ANY department or discipline can join!
Postgrads are welcome to attend PRC meetings, usually held monthly. (Please contact PARSA office for further details of times and location).
For more information go to About PARSA and Structrure and Procedures, or email us.
PARSA's Social Life
Part of PARSA's role is provide postgraduate students with the opportunity to meet other postgraduate students, have a break from studying and establish support networks. Social activities are a great way of achieving these three things.
In the past PARSA has run a huge variety of activities such as BBQ's, Trivia Nights, Bush Dances, Latin Dance Nights, Multicultural Dinners, Irish Nights, Wine, Cheese and Jazz Nights, Pancake Brunches, Soup Days and the list goes on..! View the Photo Gallery for snapshots of previous years' PARSA social events.
Most of PARSA's social events are free, and the rest are highly subsidised. For fee-paying social functions such as the Trivia Night, each registered postgraduate is allowed to invite one non-postgraduate guest, unless stipulated otherwise.
We are always open to suggestions on future PARSA events so if you have any ideas for events, would like to become involved in organising an event or volunteering some time at an event, please contact the Publications and Social Officer at parsa.social@anu.edu.au
